One of the most distinct places you come across when traveling towards the north-west of Azerbaijan is the village of Ilisu with its ancient history. Located in the high mountainous area of the Gakh region, surrounded by dense forests, this village leaves a special mark on the memory of visitors. The cool air of the Caucasus mountain range, the babbling of mountain rivers, and the unique architecture formed over centuries create a completely different atmosphere for travel lovers. Watching the ancient stone houses during a walk in the fresh mountain air relaxes the human mind. Everyone who comes here feels the atmosphere of the past while walking on the ancient cobblestone streets and merges with the harmony of nature by getting away from the noise of the city.
The next stop of our two-day trip is Zagatala, a rich corner of our country known for its hazelnut and walnut orchards. Wide parks laid out in the center of Zagatala city, fortresses belonging to ancient times, and historical streets lost in greenery are of great interest. This area, historically considered one of the important trade points of the Great Silk Road, is also distinguished by its culinary traditions. Special flavors prepared by locals, especially walnut and hazelnut sweets, delicious dishes like makhara and surhullu perfectly suit the taste of guests. It is possible to find a different cultural example on every street, especially the abundance of agricultural products in local markets attracts people.
During our carefully thought-out journey in every detail, you will have the opportunity to both picnic in the bosom of nature and get closely acquainted with local customs. The ancient Albanian temples of Gakh, therapeutic waters, the central square of Zagatala, and countless natural springs constitute the core of our travel route. For those who want to get away from long and tiring workdays and relax in a completely different climate, this walk is considered an ideal choice. Do not miss the chance to both learn history and breathe deeply in the lush green valleys. All the impressions gathered by the end of the day will accompany you with pleasant memories for a long time.
